Eran Amsalem is a Tenured Senior Lecturer (US Assistant Professor) in the Department of Communication and Journalism at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He received his Ph.D. jointly from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the University of Antwerp in 2019, and was a Visiting Doctoral and Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Political Science at Stanford University between 2018 and 2019.

His research focuses on political communication and political psychology. He studies how different forms of political information – from the news media, political rhetoric, and interpersonal discussions – shape citizens' political attitudes, knowledge, and preferences. He is particularly interested in understanding when citizens update their beliefs in response to new information, when they resist persuasion or even polarize, and the psychological processes that underlie these responses.

Eran's work has appeared in the American Political Science Review, the British Journal of Political Science, Communication Research, the Journal of Communication, Nature Communications, Political Communication, and Public Opinion Quarterly, among other outlets.

Eran teaches undergraduate and graduate classes on political communication, political persuasion, statistics, and public opinion surveys.

During the 2026-2027 academic year, while on sabbatical, he will be a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Political Science at MIT.
